1931 Ariel SQ4 - Halftime Gear Removal

The removal of the halftime gear was abit of a hurdle if you have no hint as to the proper way of doing it. I recieved some pictures and hints from the AOMCC group from Otto Mederle and Markus Nikot , Which have resulted in the following metod:

Comment to the last picture:
there is a piece of metal (red arrow) presses onto the shaft, prevent
the thread with a nut from damage. The supporttube (green arrow) presses against the inner bearing. The force is going outwards.

img_6641.jpg (72035 bytes)img_6640.jpg (64702 bytes)img_6642.jpg (62427 bytes) First the timig side bearing have to be retrieved, The spacing between the balls were removed, and metal wire were used to "fisk up the bearing once it had gotten enough heat."

img_6643.jpg (52774 bytes)img_6645.jpg (60031 bytes) Then the Oilpump gear had to be retrieved. Remember that it uses Left rotation thread.

(I can not hold the camera and extract the same time..) In the first picture you can se the tube that fits over the shaft, and supports the aluminium wall. The original nut is used together with a washer to pull the shaft off... Heat was applied to the gear and shaft.. Just before the pull was going to be made. WD40 was used to spray directly at the shaft thread, to shrink it.
